PV Headlines
Portugal is relying heavily on renewable energy sources for electricity. In March, 91% of the country's electricity consumption came from renewables, and this is the third month in a row where this number has been above 80%. This is a significant increase from 2023 when renewables accounted for 61% of consumption. Hydroelectric power was the biggest contributor (47%), followed by wind (31%), solar (6%), and biomass (5%). The use of natural gas for electricity generation has decreased significantly due to the high availability of renewable energy.
Energy Storage
Development of Lithium-sulfur batteries in Germany. (7 Minutes Read)
In the KovaLiS joint project, DLR’s goal is to create high-energy density batteries with improved stability and cyclability. It utilizes sulfurized polymers, a promising material for Lithium-sulfur batteries, to create pouch cells. The consortium consists of multiple research institutions and companies with expertise in material science, battery production, and characterization. Their collaboration aims to develop application-oriented batteries for stationary and mobile storage.
